CBPS is excited to announce the February 2023 rollout of the Evolv Express Technology.
This advanced weapons detection screening system will be stationed at Colonial Beach High School. It is a much needed upgrade to our current outdated metal detection device. Evolve has the ability to perform a variety of advanced functions including the ability to quickly detect a “phone or personal item from a potential weapon or component of a weapon”. Evolv is looking for “weapons and parts of weapons only”.
We received a “School Security” grant from the Virginia Department of Education which allowed us to acquire this system with a 25 percent match from CBPS. For further details about Evolv, please refer to this link (A Guide for Parents).

Currently, CBPS’s policy provides that any person entering Colonial Beach High School is subject to search for the protection of students and staff. This screening process will not change, rather, the new equipment will reduce the screening process time and be less intrusive. The system will be monitored and managed by the CBHS security team.
“Safety and security for our students and staff is my number one priority. The Evolv system is one of many measures that we are putting in place to accomplish this goal”, said CBPS Superintendent Dr. Clint Mitchell.
CBPS expects parents and students to continue to check backpacks before students leave for school each day to make sure they do not possess items that could present potential safety risks. Should you have questions or need further clarification about any information contained within, please do not hesitate to contact the School Board Office at 804-224-0906.
